Day 8 on the road.
Decided to stay local at the moment in the Teton’s because of the brake issue. We checked things out and everything seems ok so we went ahead and drove over to Old Faithfull in Yellowstone. It was totally awesome! Just the mere thought of sitting on top of a huge volcano that could erupt and end civilization as we know it, puts a great respect on seeing the steam and water spew out of the vent hole.
It was a little chilly out but was able to find a place to sit and wait for the show that was away from everyone else that showed up. And it’s not as crowded this time of year since it’s basically this area’s “spring” so there’s still lots of snow on the ground and on the mountains.
While we were out, the check engine light came on which isn’t a good sign in my book. Thought it might be the elevation and pressure on the gas tank but we opened the cap and reclosed and didn’t fix the problem. So, need to check that out as well now.
We took a leisurely drive back to camp and the spot we’re in we have to pull the truck into the back of the camper against the bikes, so Dave got out and helped gage how far up I needed to pull but as I turned off the truck it made a thunking then hissing noise. We popped open the hood and restarted and stopped the truck a couple of times – can’t figure out where that is all coming from, but now have to have that looked at.
We have seen (socially distanced) people and we’ve talked about Alaska and traveling in general as well as Rolling with the Ritters and now facing truck issues. We learned that we might have issues crossing the border with the meds Dave that he is on due to the fact that it does not have a true prescription label on the boxes and have no way of verifying that each shot contains an experimental medication that is not approved by the Canadian standards nor the US at this time.
Dave’s neurologist at OSU has sent us a letter to give to the Canadian officials regarding the meds so fingers crossed it would be smooth sailing. We will be contacting Canadian Border Patrol and Custom’s for more information as we’re getting the truck issues figured out. We’re looking for Ford dealers around the areas that we are going to be in to get it in and checked out. So far, the only one we’ve seen, is like a 2 hour drive from here – UGH! So more to come on all that.
