Day 4 on the road.
Made it to the Rocky Mountains – and OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I love the Smoky Mountains in TN but this is like the Smokies Grandfather – or on steroids or something! I have never seen anything more beautiful in my life. The mountaintops reaching to the sky to touch the heavens.
Growing up I was a big John Denver fan – listening to the words he wrote and sang about the Rockies and the beauty of the area made me want to visit – and I wasn’t disappointed.
We were going to stay in one of the local campgrounds – with Dave’s pass it would have only been $9 per night to stay. No amenities which is fine since we are prepped for that anyway, but once we got into the campground, I got an uneasy feeling about the place and the sites were pushed against each other with large rocks in the way, so we opted to drive back a ways and stay in the Boulder County Fairgrounds campground. Not bad and not crowded – $20 a night with electricity which will help us get everything recharged without pulling out the solar panels.
It was late by the time we did get set up since it was a long day’s drive, so we opted for sandwiches and sleep. My birthday dinner that Dave has planned will wait. 😊
